edited by David Walton, ESSAY (Caja Murcia, Universidad de Murcia, 1999)
One of four essays published after a series of seminars at the University of Murcia exploring aspects of British culture. This essay examines the various forms of interaction between different cultures in Britain since the Viking invasions. It raises important questions about nationhood against a background of diverse cultures, beliefs and value systems. It examines changes in popular culture, politics, demography, as well as globalization and Ameriacanisation to reveal a multifaceted culture too often obscured by traditional stereotypical images of ‘Britain’.
