The Cardiff lecture, sponsored by Whitbread and Random House (London, Random House, 1997)
In association with Whitbread and Random House UK, the University of Cardiff invited Ron Ramdin to give the fifth annual Lecture, an event which had been growing in stature since its inauguration in 1992. The first Lecture was given by Booker Prize-winning novelist Barry Unsworth and in the following years the writer and broadcaster Michele Roberts, the acclaimed novelist and crime-writer P D James and the Whitbread Award-winning biographer and novelist Victoria Glendenning were the guest speakers. Ron Ramdin’s Lecture was entitled Homelessness and the novel.
